Words and letters letterpress workshop
On Sunday we hosted a 2 hour letterpress workshop for a graphic designing duo Nicola and Elyssa.
Pop Press use letterpress to express illustrative ideas and so it’s always interesting to see a graphic designer’s take on lettepress and see what they would come up with.
Nicola’s take on a family tree was carefully typeset and after revising for spelling mistakes (oops!)produced an elegant print ready for framing.
There was just enough time to letterpress a quote by Christopher Hitchens. She was able to solve the problem of using a typeface with a limited number of characters, creatively, by the use of a capital ‘E’ which emphasised the wit behind the meaning.
Elyssa’s starting point was based on her MA Graphic Design Project ‘Print is Dead’ and experimented with composition of different sized types to produce a dynamic letterpress print. The worn out capital D of the vintage wooden type face was typeset in a playful nod to the word ‘Dead’. To end the workshop Elyssa typeset and letterpressed a bespoke notebook! If you fancy having a go at one of our letterpressed workshops you can book here
